Superhero shake-down on Hollywood Blvd.
BY ERIN MAXWELL
The Joker must be having a field day.
Earlier today, Batman and few of his masked cronies were arrested as part of a sweep of costumed characters that stand for pictures on Hollywood Blvd.
Recently, the LAPD are cracking down on the costumed characters that loiter in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater posing for pictures with tourists and kooky locals.
Part of the reason for the arrests is that while costumed characters are allowed to accept tips for their “services,” they are strictly prohibited from soliciting payment. In recent years, the numbers of impersonators attempting to shake-down tourists in exchange for keepsake pics has grown to new highs, and have reportedly become a nuisance to shop owners in the area.
The city is considering a new ordinance to address the issue, while Batman, Superman and the entire Justin League of Slightly-Creepy Superheroes stand their ground that they are innocent in the situation and claim to be merely “standing on a public street.”
