'Prometheus' Trailer Delivers Sci-Fi Terror

Prometheus_newprequel

After thirty years away from the genre, Ridley Scott is back in the land of science-fiction, with 20th Century Fox today releasing the first official teaser for “Prometheus," the director's highly-anticipated sci-fi tentpole.

Set on a remote planet, the CGI-heavy “Promethus’” looks like an epic (and terrifying) reunion for Scott and his “Alien” franchise, despite Fox repeatedly denying an "Alien" descent.

Fassbender_promStarring Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and the original “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” Noomi Rapace, “Prometheus” (June 8) has the potential to do some B.O. damage leading up to Pixar's "Brave" (June 22) as well as Par's "G.I. Joe" sequel (June 29).

To be honest -- I'm kinda surprised Fox isn't going to town with the "Alien" angle, given a) it's a popular franchise, b) how well the familiarity worked out for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (another Fox project) and c) the obvious undertones.

Still, it's nice to see Ridley back in the sci-fi game.

"The keen fan will recognize strands of 'Alien's' DNA, so to speak," Scott previously said in a statement. "But the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative."

Written by Damon Lindelof and John Spaihts, “Prometheus” hits theaters June 8, 2012.

William, Kate to attend 'War Horse' U.K. premiere

KatewillPrince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, will attend next month’s London premiere of “War Horse,” DreamWorks announced Thursday.

The World War I pic, directed by Steven Spielberg, charts the friendship between a Britsh boy and his horse; thus, the Prince of Wales, an avid polo player, seems like a natural fit.

“War Horse” will preem Jan. 8 at Leicester Square, London's Times Square.

Watch the first teaser for 'The Hobbit'

Hobbit

Warner Bros. and New Line have released the first teaser for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

Based on the novel by J.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit" is set 60 years before "Lord of the Rings" and tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, the unassuming Hobbit, who becomes a hero by obtaining a powerful ring in the face of challenges by the wicked Gollum and Smaug.

Peter Jackson, who directed the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, is back at the helm, with Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett reprising their roles from the "LOTR" saga.

Warner Bros. will release the first installment of the two "Hobbit" pics on December 14, 2012. The second "Hobbit" pic, dubbed "There and Back Again," arrives December 13, 2013.

Sacha Baron Cohen's 'Dictator' releases statement re: Kim Jong-Il.

Cohen_kim

Widely known for his politically incorrect past, Sacha Baron Cohen, a.k.a. "The Dictator," has released an official statement regarding the death of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. (in character, of course)

"He died as he lived, in 3-inch lifts," General Aladeen writes. "On behalf of myself, Ahmadinejad, Chavez and Newt Gingrich, we'd like to welcome his son Kim Jong Un into the 'Axis of Evil.'"

Cohen, who starred as controversial funnymen "Borat" and "Bruno," will bring his "Dictator" to theaters May 11, 2012.

Excited yet?

If you didn't happen to catch this before "Sherlock Holmes" (and not many of you did), Warner Bros. released the newest "Dark Knight Rises" trailer on Monday.

Offering glimpses of Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman as well as Tom Hardy’s slightly incoherent Bane, the new footage also showcases an explosive football sequence (yes, Gotham football).

To call "The Dark Knight Rises" the most-anticipated tentpole of 2012 would be unfair to "The Hobbit," "Avengers" and "Spider-Man," but who are we kidding? Batman is still the coolest cat in Hollywood.

In addition to the new trailer, WB is teasing a six-minute "Dark Knight" prologue before Paramount's "Mission: Impossible" Imax screenings. (Check here for local listings)

Directed by Christopher Nolan, "The Dark Knight Rises" features an all-star ensemble including Christian Bale, Hardy, Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Gary Oldman, Juno Temple and Michael Cane.

WB's "Dark Knight," released in 2008, grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

Christian Bale Roughed Up In China (VIDEO)

Thesp Christian Bale was assaulted Thursday by security guards as he tried to visit one of China's best-known dissidents, the blind, "barefoot lawyer" Chen Guangcheng, who has been under house arrest since his release from prison last year.
The "Dark Knight" star was with a CNN crew when they were jostled by plainclothes security officials (see video below).
Footage showed Bale asking "Why can I not visit this man?" as guards tried to take away his camera.
Blinded by a fever in infancy and self-taught as a lawyer, Chen was jailed for drawing attention to forced sterilizations and abortions in his locality because of the One Child Policy. Read More
