IFC Midnight acquires Kubrick doc 'Room 237'

Kubrickcam_boffoIFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to Rodney Asher’s documentary “Room 237,” which concerns the theories surrounding Stanley Kubric’s iconic horror pic “The Shining.”

“Room 237,” produced by Tim Kurk, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January.

IFC Midnight will release the film later this year.

“Rodney Ascher has made a brilliantly constructed film that will bring joy to cinephiles and the curious around the world,” Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films said in a statement.

Variety film critic Rob Nelson, who called “Room 237” “one of the great movies about movies,” noted in his review that Ascher’s doc contemplates the relationships between the late Kubrick's 1980 affront and the Holocaust, the TV depiction of the Apollo moon landing, the genocide of Native Americans, and numerology.

The film’s full title is "Room 237: Being an Inquiry Into 'The Shining' in 9 Parts."
