WATCH: First trailer for Spielberg's 'Lincoln'
"Shall we stop this bleeding?"
On Thursday, Steven Spielberg and Joseph Gordon-Levitt unveiled the first official teaser for Spielberg's long-gestating "Lincoln" biopic from DreamWorks and producer Kathleen Kennedy.
"Lincoln was a monumental president and we treat him as a man, not a monument," Spielberg said during Google's special Hangout presentation.
Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln" is based on historian Doris Kearns Goodwin's book about Abraham Lincoln and his presidential Cabinet, "Team of Rivals." The film's dramatic focus, Spielberg recently told Variety, is on the work in the Lincoln White House, the efforts by Lincoln to steer events, and the obstacles in his way. Sally Fields, Tommy Lee Jones and Jared Hess co-star in the film.
"Lincoln," adapted for the bigscreen by Tony Kushner, arrives in theaters Nov. 9.
